PHYSICAL SECURITY AUDIT DIRECTIVE: AURA DYNAMICS ACQUISITION

ISSUED BY: Director of Physical Security & Operations, Xtensr Research Labs

TARGET FACILITY: 404 Research Way, Annex B (Acquired Lab)

PRIORITY 1 TASK

Xtensr Research Labs has completed the acquisition of Aura Dynamics, a boutique research firm developing specialized quantum sensor prototypes. As a member of the Xtensr Physical Security Team, your immediate objective is to perform a comprehensive physical vulnerability assessment of the newly acquired lab building before we migrate sensitive IP and high-value equipment.

Unlike digital threats, physical breaches cannot be patched with software updates. A compromised perimeter, unmonitored egress point, or inadequate access control can lead to hardware theft, corporate espionage, and physical sabotage.

Step 1: Vulnerabilities

Inspect building blueprints to identify physical flaws across perimeter, doors, windows, and vaults.

Step 2: Risk Scoring

Evaluate Likelihood vs. Impact for every identified flaw to prioritize physical remediation.

Step 3: Mitigation

Select structural physical controls (mantraps, bollards, reinforced glass, biometric locks).

Step 4: Sensors & Surveillance

Place CCTV cameras, motion sensors, door contacts, and glass-break detectors to eliminate blind spots.

Key Physical Security Principles (NIST SP 800-116 & ISO 27002):

  • Concentric Rings of Defense: Physical protection must start at the outer perimeter and become stricter towards the inner core (Data Center / Prototype Vault).
  • Detection vs. Delay: Physical barriers delay an intruder; detection equipment alerts security forces before the delay time is exhausted.
  • Elimination of Single Points of Entry: Ensure no unmonitored window, duct, drop ceiling, or delivery door bypasses badge checks.
